Could the Blago/Obama Chaos Open a New Steel Door for Republicans?

Governor Blagojevich met with his attorney today to discuss his current legal options. Fox news is reporting that he will decide by Monday whether to step down as Governor of Illinois. The news for President-elect Obama looked a little more murky as news broke that his new chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, had spoken with the Governor about Obama's replacement.

It's interesting that the soon to be administration that promised transparency has had very little to say on the topic. Top Republicans are questioning Obama and his aides as to what, who, why, when, and how long? The one statement on the subject that President-elect Obama made on the subject has a more holes in it than Swiss cheese.

Even die-hard liberals are scratching their heads at the circumstances surrounding Governor Blagojevich. It's not a shock to anyone that there is corruption in Chicago politics. However, will the residents of the blue state begin weining their support for the ruling party. With all of the chaos that now surrounds the appointment of Obama's Senate replacement, many are calling for a special election.

Could this be the opening door that the Republicans in the state have been waiting for? After all, the country threw out the Republicans in 2004 for far less corruption than we see going on today in Chicago. How much more embarrassment can one state take from it's leadership? Republicans already have a winning streak going for post-November elections.

Could the Obama drama be a signal for a Republican come-back even before he spends a single day as the President?

Stacy,
I honestly believe that the only people who believe that Obama is connected with this were already predisposed to believe Obama is a criminal. Irregardless, the Republicans ought not to be so eager to "push" the issue so publicly, as their "over enthusiasm" is both premature and extremely distasteful.

Additionally, it needs to be said that Bush is still in office continuing to wreck pretty much everything he touches. He continues to inflame the Left, and because of that, Obama gets pretty much a free pass just for NOT being Bush. It is unfair, and it isn't right; but that is the truth.

Point in case, the recent changes by Bush concerning the Endangered Species Act.... Did he really need to pass that? Everyone knows that it will be reversed on January 21st, so what is the point besides giving the finger to the Left?

Duct tape Bush, find some credible evidence against Obama, show some class about the whole affair, and you open that door. Otherwise you only convince the "faithful", and that is not enough to win an election.

BTW, too funny on the "we are on a winning streak since November". The glass is half full indeed!

That's my two cents on the matter.

First, I didn't necessarily say anything about Obama's involvement. However, the press that has been in love with him since the beginning are the ones that are now asking a few more questions.

Second, I think people have already explained Bush to you. Bush has not destroyed anything on his own. He has had some help from a Democratic congress. Who would have thought Bush was actually a RINO?

Illinois is a big state. There is a chance that people will get disgusted by their government corruption and throw them all out. It's not completely unrealistic and it has nothing to do with Obama.

Stacy,

I wish. You know if there had been any HINT at ANYTHING related to a Republican candidate, the MSM would have been all over it. Look how they treated Governor Palin when her family simply wanted to address an ex-family member who threatened them with murder and used a taser on his stepson... and was still on the police force (I've seen policement get fired immediately for using a taser "recreationally" or anyway that is not in direct line of duty properly). They leaped all over Governor Palin for NOTHING. They tried so hard to inflame that into "something" and were scurrilous acting like that was somehow "corruption". It was not in any way shape or form.

Now, we have clear bribery related to the Obama seat. Obama lied and said there was no contact. Obama and Rehm (sp?) are lying and covering up what did occur. Both have longstanding relationships with this character... and it's well publicized. The Illinois Governor has been involved in pay to play for YEARS... and they continued their relationship with him.

This is not a "small thing". This is serious, legitimate, and look at the response of American Liberal.

He acts like "We must be 'picking on' poor Obama"... when we raise questions and want answers.

Typical.

Plus, AL then turns to attack Bush . How can we expect sane, balanced, or even legal behavior from those who support Obama??

They'd cover for him like folks covered for OJ when OJ was caught literally... redhanded... via DNA.

AL, we don't care about peripheral issues. The crime and graft of the Chicago machine is right before us and we want answers!!!

How dare Obama and Rehm play these political games as if they are above the law and above accountability and don't need to tell the truth openly!!

But, oh yeah, in your INSANITY as you seek to "win" against the "supposed enemy" of the "right"... you say "anything goes" for Obama.

That's a problem, AL. That's a problem.

You don't know who your friend - or your enemies - really are.

I wish, Stacy, that there was some sanity... but I'm not believing that people in our society at this hour will be able to restrain themselves from increased insanity as they pursue moral and sexual laisses-faire "at all costs public and private".

Grace.

Unfortunately there is no shortage of corrupt politicians in either party, and there is no evidence that Obama is among them. It is a stretch to link his name with Blago's in the title of your post. I would be concerned about incompetance if Obama staffers weren't having conversations with the governor's office about the open senate seat.

I saw somewhere that ethics legislation recently passed in Illinois (with support from Obama) played a role in collecting enough evidence to charge Blago.

Why not try to influence Obama's polices, because we all need him to succeed, rather than trump up nonexistant scandals about his transistion team.

"First, I didn't necessarily say anything about Obama's involvement."

Might want to reread your post Stacy as you clearly imply a connection (in my mind) not only in you title but in the body of the post as well.

"However, the press that has been in love with him since the beginning are the ones that are now asking a few more questions."

You think the MSM is asking more questions and Grace thinks the MSM is giving Obama another free pass.
I believe that everyone is speculating, and trying to review all of the relevant facts (to death). Unfortunately, there is not a lot of information available so the questions sit unanswered much to the consternation of the Right. This is a process and we have to have some patience.

"Second, I think people have already explained Bush to you. Bush has not destroyed anything on his own. He has had some help from a Democratic congress."

Bush is the President of the United States, and I'm sorry but the "buck" stops squarely at his desk. But just as a diversion, explain to me again how a Democratic Congress affects an Executive Order?

"Illinois is a big state. There is a chance that people will get disgusted by their government corruption and throw them all out."

Amen.
Unfortunately, they replaced the corrupt Republican Governor (Ryan) with a corrupt Democratic Governor (Blago). I'm not sure what message that sends to the people of Illinois besides dispair.

continuing: "It's not completely unrealistic and it has nothing to do with Obama."

Until further information is presented that is contrary, you are absolutely correct.

Grace,
As for me talking about the misdeeds of Bush, I am a Liberal, it's what I do!
Seriously, I was using his latest efforts to try and explain why there is a continued love affair with Obama.
Let me try another tactic/analogy - we are the munchkins celebrating in the "Wizard of Oz" (after the demise of the Wicked Witch). Hard to hear the slurs over the singing, if you catch my drift.

Ok. Blago was filling Obama's senate seat. Regardless of whether he had anything to do with the mess he IS involved in the chaos. My headline does not imply guilt.

Bush's executive orders had nothing to do with this mess. His failure to veto a spending bill sent to him by Congress did. He failed miserably at being a fiscal conservative. So yes, Congress had a lot to do with it...and that's not even mentioning what has already been discussed here....i.e. Fannie/Freddie/Dem crap!!

AL, I think it simply reaffirms P.T. Barnum's famous quote that "there's a sucker born every minute", and, unfortunately, it seems that a lot of them have taken up residence in Illinois. Anyone who believes that Barack Obama came up through this political sewer without any of the muck and slime sticking to him is hopelessly naive.

Amen Retired Spook. Anyone who has researched Obama's past history in Illinois KNOWS he was part of problem and not the solution for Chicago. If you lie down with dogs, you end up with fleas (and I'll bet Obama has a closet full of them).

Retired Spook,

LOL! I like the analogy, but have you ever read about Truman?

Just a thought.

Doesn't American Liberal have anywhere else to go or has he worn out his welcome on the rest of the blogs? I relish interactions but don't like to feel I'm under constant attack. Hasn't Obama-central notified him that the election is over and he doesn't have to seek and destroy non-Obama sites anymore?

"warmest regards"

Anonymous,

Welcome to Stacy's site.

If you expected an echo chamber for your views, please accept my apologies in advance for ruining that experience for you.

You will, however, never be attacked on this blog (at least not by me), so please don't let the Liberal in my name scare you from setting up shop and posting your heart out.

Warmest Regards.
