Are We Headed Toward Socialism or Are We Already There?

There are many people, mostly on the right, that have felt that President Obama would take this country in the direction of socialism. For those liberals who enjoy visiting my site, I am sure you are laughing at that statement. However, I would like for you to consider a few things.

This past election season made it very apparent that although we do not have state owned television stations, they are now state run. The press are no longer objective questioners of the government looking out for the people. Instead they are a cheer leading section for the President and the Democratic party.

As the financial "crisis" loomed, even President Bush threw free market enterprise out the window. President Obama looks to continue with that direction. The next step with the TARP funds is a gigantic leap towards nationalizing our banking system. When you begin to interfere with how private companies operate their businesses, you are making a choice away from the free market system and heading towards socialism.

Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) was interviewed this past week and stated that the so-called Fairness Doctrine was being discussed and would most certainly make a return. She stated that radio stations must be held accountable for their content. Again, this is a private industry that is being told what they can and cannot share with their public audience.

Health care reform has been a project of the Democratic party for generations. It appears that this may have a chance at becoming a reality. No one disagrees that we should help people receive affordable health care coverage, but it's how we chose to make that happen that divides us. Within the new stimulus package, it appears that some of the first steps toward nationalized health care are already in the works.

Finally, one last thought to consider. In the state of Oregon, lawmakers are struggling to meet budgets. Instead of looking to cut costs, there is actually a bill in the works that would tax drivers on how many miles they drive. How exactly would the government know how far you drive? The state government would require that you install a GPS device on your car that would tell the gas pump how many miles you have driven and tax you on the amount. The government would actually have a way to track your every move.

If state run television. nationalize banking, nationalized health care, silencing the opposition, and tracking it's citizens isn't socialism, then you would also enjoy living in China. I hear they are hiring.

This is not America. This is an overthrow of our Constitution. As Americans we must decide what "rule of law" really means. Does it mean the dictates of radicals who misrepresent themselves into office and so are we a dictatorship of men and women?? Or are we a nation of law that is based on principles to which we ourselves have a greed in our constitution by which we the people govern ourselves?

Is "the rule of law" based on the tyranny of the few??

Or is the "rule of the law" based on the principles and the judgments of the many in our Constitution??

Can America truly become socialist on the "say so" of a few people in office circumventing and overthrowing the Constitution of the USA and the 10th Amendment which prevents federalism from imposing itself on States - and which made States sovereign over the Federal powers and with veto power even over the Supreme Court??

We cannot become a socialist nation and follow the rule of the law of the Constitution at the same time.

Men are not the law. The Constitution is the law. Our political leaders are breaking the law and violating the Constitution of the USA.

We are under no moral compunction to disobey and break the law with them on their "say so". We must return all Constitutional power to the state and break up the monopoly of the power of the few in DC - which is illegal, unlawful, outside the rule of law, treasonous, and unConstitutional.

It's time we the people and the States held the federal powers and the Supreme Court accountable to the rule of the Constitution - the rule of law - and the balance of powers the founders of this nation designed.

Socialism is illegal and unconstitutional according to the 9th and 10th Amendments of the USA and violates the rights and powers and the checks and balances of powers of the States and of the people.

Please do not think for one moment that God, or the founders, or law itself would have us to "submit" to socialism in the USA. The Constitution is the rule of law here - and the federal government (and the Supreme Court if it fails to uphold the 9th and 10th Amendments) is in violation and must be repealed as 20 State legislators are now stating as they assert State Sovereignty and the 10th Amendment - the rights of the people against a corrupt administration, corrupt Supreme Court corrupt legislative branch - and declare freedom and liberty once more across the USA as our founders did in their day.

Sorry for the length of this response - but I just wanted to write, in response to this, how Socialism is illegal in the USA, unconstitutional and has no legal authority over the States or the people in this Constitutional Republic. Our moral responsibility is to stand with the rule of law according to the people at the State level against the Federal encroachment upon States and overthrow of our Constitution illegally. Socialism is illegal, unconstitutional and we the people must restore power to the States to obey the rule of law and Constitution in the USA.

Grace.

I can't find anything I really disagree with in what you are stating. I would also point out that while I think it is lunacy to bailout private industry the lunacy expands when the government determines how much a board of directors chooses to pay its folks.

You know, I am confused by the Right. Where were your outraged voices during the last eight years?

I say this to underscore the credibility that the Right now have with the American people. We are not heading into socialism, we have been dabbling with that for years. For the Right to suddenly discover this and use it to stir the fears of their flock is amazing. We have some real problems, and while the Democrats(with some Republicans, and certainly not in perfect unison) are trying to help real people with real problems, the Right just looks at this as an opportunity to pull out their old tired rhetoric in hopes of winning the 2010 election cycle.

People like me would like to ask Republicans, what about now? What in your actions and words will put food on the table and jobs in the market? What exactly are you promoting that isn't exactly the same as the last two efforts under Bush (and I don't care how you spin it, that did NOT work)?

As to the Fairness Doctrine, I strongly suggest you review why this has made a resurgence. If you think it has to do with attempts to shut down Rush, well you are just drinking the kool-aid, go look again. There is an ongoing efforts by several groups to buy up majority stakes in specific markets in an overt attempt to control what people in those markets hear and see. I wish I was kidding, and it isn't the liberals.

And Mel,
Did you know since Obama mentioned that the government would impose conditions on future TARP loans, that banks are pulling their applications? That's right, they have suddenly discovered that perhaps they don't need our tax payer money. Heck, CitiCorp is reviewing ways to give all of the loaned money back ASAP. Isn't that what we all wanted?

Rick-The rightroots railed against what Bush did economically for years. We are finally having some success at getting our elected officials to listen to us.

I find it ironic that Dems talk about the failed Bush years. You know what Bush failed at....he didn't cut spending. He skyrocketed the deficit. So in response, the Democrats are chosing to do what....more of the same, but this time, let's triple the spending.

How is STD prevention going to increase jobs? While some construction jobs will temporarily be created, when the money is gone so are those jobs. Why not do something that would create permanent jobs.

Why spend over $800,000 to create 1 job that is going to pay on average #32k a year.

Instead, why not reduce taxes across the board this year. You would immediately put money in people's pockets and they would be able to spend now.....not years from now.

We did scream about Bush's spending, but we are screaming three times louder now to match the spending Obama has promised.

Rick Beagle said...

Your comments are pretty typical fare from the Republican faithful, but you sound like a reasonable person, so let me try some common sense with you.

The basic tenet of government spending goes like this, in good times, spend less, but in bad times, spend more. Ronald Reagan understood these economic principles and it is appalling that the current set of neocons have forgotten it.
You may pause and be justified in asking, why? It is all about the people. In economic good times, people are generally happy and the government has little impetus to intercede in their lives. During a Recession that looks to be a precursor to a Depression, people need help, and as POTUS said yesterday, the Fed (whether we like it or not) is the only entity with the means to help.
Historically, the policy of government not interceding ends rather grimly. Obama is doing exactly what he should be doing, and it is unfortunate that the orgy of wasteful spending by Bush makes people like you and to some extent I, so cynical of any spending that you forget these basic economic tenets.

Give them more tax cuts! Do Republicans have no shame? If a person does not have a job how do less taxes help them? Oh that's right, the others who have jobs will have more money to spend, and this will trickle into more jobs? This did not work the last two times that Bush tried it, why on earth do you think that this alone will work this time? As part of an overall Stimulus Package it works, but not by itself; never has, never will.

The Stimulus Bill is designed to create jobs by funding efforts that are already in the pipe per se. Some of those programs are questionable (sacred cows) and for the most part have been pulled. There has been a great deal of effort spent to pull pork out of this bill and keep it on message. Unfortunately, there is far more transparency in this process than EVER before, and people are confusing the solicitation of comments on discussion bills as factual reasons to obstruct its passage. It flies in the face of common sense, but you hear it every day.

Finally, I have to ask something that is quite troubling to me. This week, we have seen a Republican Senator compare his party favorably with the "Taliban", and three Republican Senators who helped pass that bill received death threats, white powder in their mail, and a constant stream of hateful rhetoric from people outside their districts insuring that they would be forcibly removed from office. You accuse Obama of Socialism, but what the heck do you call the efforts of your own party and its members? I call it loathsome, close minded and troubling, but what do I know?

Great post! I really enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work.

I recently started a new blog that will be highlighting the dangerous advances of the secular progressive movement (pro-gay “rights”, pro-abortion, anti-religious freedoms, etc).

We’re looking to build a solid group of conservatives who’ll frequent our site regularly and contribute to some good discussions. The site gets updated daily with breaking news, so you’ll want to check back often, or you can just sign up for our News Feed.

If you’ll add us to your blogroll we’ll gladly add you to ours. Our blog is called Religion and Morality.

Thanks!

The writing is on the wall. This isn't just a slippery slope in to Socialism, it's a slippery leap off the cliff in to Socialism.

D. Stabenau says "Radio stations must be held accountable for their content"? How about half the smut on television these days? There is bairly a television show fit for a child to hear or watch anymore. Oh, but wait! What is it that Libs say? If you don't like what's on tv, turn it off. The same can be applied to talk radio. Don't like it Libs? Turn it off!

PLANNED OR JUST HAPPENSTANCE: YOU DECIDE
When I first started researching Obama and his associates two years ago. I thought He was just a puppet for the Socialist who wanted to gain control of this country.

The more I researched and connected daily events the more I became convinced that it is a plan by Communists for world domination.

My back ground for research: I spent nine years in Navy Intelligence, the last six of which was spent in studying past actions, current actions by the Socialists and using the best intelligence available predicting what the future actions and outcomes would be.

In a previous article "America In Peril" In past events I listed the background of Frank Marshal Davis (Obama's mentor) The goals of the Communist Party USA as entered in the Congressional Record In June, 1963, to illustrate how many of those goals had already been accomplished, and to show that one of the goals was to recruit and train selected people to run for office. I added transcripts of an interview with Yuri Bezmenov (a KGB agent who defected in 1970 and taped the interview in 1984) to show how the goals had been accomplished.
I Linked Obama to the New Party which is just another name for the Communist Party usa, and posted a press release from the New Party showing that indeed Obama was a member when he ran for the Illinois Senate seat.

Next I listed the provisions of the Biden Crime Act, and a list of Executive Orders, that when envoked will virtually give Obama Dictator status.

Recent events lead me to believe that the plan is far more reaching than just turning America into a Socialist country.

The blockage of any attempts to regulate Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac by the Democrats from 1998-2006 ensured they would crash, which they did in Sept. 2007. But the most telling of all events was the 2 hour run on the banks in Sept. 2008 to the tune of 550 billion dollars.
Democrat—Rep. Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania said that if authorities had not closed the banks, $5 ½ TRILLION would have been withdrawn from US banks, which would have caused the collapse of the US and within 24 hours the collapse of the world’s economic system.

Who but Obama's Puppetmasters George Soros and the 100+ members of the Democracy Alliance have enough money in money market funds to execute such a run on the banks.

There is nothing illegal about withdrawing one's own money from the bank, but this much at one time caused panic, at the precise time John McCain had just pulled a couple of points ahead of Obama in the National Polls.

Was this the Puppetmasters warning to the world and to George Bush, that if they did not accept a Global Socialist world Order their economy would collapse.

Planned or happenstance
You Decide.

I AGREE THIS IS NOT THE UNITED STATES THAT OUR FOUNDING FATHERS INTENDED FOR US TO HAVE... They intended for us to have a Republic, a government based of the rule of law... but slowly we have arrived at a democracy, a government ruled by the majority, and eventually we are going to have an oligarchy, I believe we need to restore what our founding fathers intended for us to have: a republic!

I am only a sophomore in college and have NEVER been interested in government and politics until after I left my Poli Sci class one day after watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqM7v4XrV7o

On a side note, I have a real problem with having a bunch of political science majors in Washington telling americans how to run an economy. I just feel that we need people who know what they are talking about, for our representatives are NOT qualified for this task!

I cheered (virtually) when I read that. Have mercy Bush was a liberal wolf in sheep's clothing. Methinks there's no talking common sense into your Mr. Beagle as he doesn't understand the ramifications of socializing a capitalist nation. I thought we were through with it after FDR...apparently not. Did you know that the dems made good & sure that a president only served 2 terms right after FDR? I think they knew something then that we've since forgotten. Good luck.

Besides the principle of whether one wants saocialism, capitalism, or a mixture of the two. There is a basic math problem that much of the media is ignoring. How do you spend and borrow at this rate and keep a viable economy. We simply can't sustain this kind of spending, regardless of ideology. I certainly was not a fan of Bush's spending habits, but Obama and the Congress are taking spending to a truly disturbing level.

King Geithner

Excerpt from Associated Press article on 3/26/09:

Bill to appease public without peeving investors

WASHINGTON – Democrats are looking for a way to respond to the public's outrage over taxpayer money being used to bankroll big bonuses for financial executives without alienating an industry whose cooperation is crucial to the nation's economic recovery.
The House Financial Services Committee planned to endorse on Thursday a bill that would let Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and financial regulators decide whether an institution was spending too much money rewarding its employees.

The article goes on:

The measure would exempt institutions that agree to participate in a government-sponsored program aimed at buying up $1 trillion of bad debt, or "toxic assets," sitting on the books of major banks. Geithner proposed the new investment program on Monday.

Now my comments:

OK – So, taking an outrageous government power of intervention in private business (which should never exist) away from elected officials and putting that same power in the hands of an appointed official (who could not even complete his own tax forms!) is better for us how?????!!!!! The deliberation should occur before you pass a bill – NOT AFTER!

Isn’t saying 'If you don't buy stuff that's no good, we'll take away your bonuses.' tantamount to EXTORTION?

I fear we have appointed Financial Kings, and their domain of power is ever expanding……

Having read "Atlas Shrugged" and the definition of "statist", I believe we have already started progressing to socialism, and within a year will be there. This man should not be sitting in the White House. Those of us who aren't CIVIC IDIOTS know that he is not constitutionaly eligable to run! The Conspiracy is VAST on this one folks! All we can hope for is that with enough outcry from Americans over the bastardizing of our Republic, will result in the nullification of all the damage he has done already! Keep the preasure on! Don't let it go!
The Constitution is my guide and the founders knew what they were doing. I have redefined myself as a Conservative because that is the only way to be fair to all Americans and potential Americans.

We live in a socialistic democracy and have for a very very long time.We have public schools, medicar, medicaide,va hospitals, social security, public highways, water and sewer systems, police and fire departments, and now finally universal healthcare for all our citizens, just like the rest of the industrialized nations have had for years.Want to cut taxes? Then close the over 150 military bases overseas, and drastically cut our military. We spend more money on our military than all the countries in the world combined.Just remeber this, the biggest and most powerfull military wont stop a terrorist from sneaking into a country and doing damage to it.I cant believe that the neo-cons didn't bat an eye when bush illegally invaded and attcked and occupyed an innocent sovergn nation to the tune of 700 billion dollars and counting, borrowed dollars I might add, with interest acumalating. Then gives huge tax cuts to the upper one%.Just getting rid of those 150 overseas bases will pay off our national dbt and free up taxes to be used on fixing up our crumbling infrastructure and fund our healthcare system.
