Why Republicans Should NOT Give Up On The Black Vote EVER!

Little of the information I am about to share will be taught to our children as part of history lessons in school.  Today, the liberal teachers' unions, one of the bosses of the Democrat party, ensure that our children only learn the lessons that they chose to teach.

For this reason, the Republican party must never give up on the black vote. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican for a reason.  You heard me right, MLK, Jr. was a Republican. At some point in the last few decades, Democrats won over the black community in this country.  I just don't understand why?

Thanks to a great woman, Frances Rice, I was truly educated about the history of my party and it's ties to the black community.  You can read her full article here.  Here are a few tidbits that I learned from her.

It was the Republicans who:
  • Fought to free blacks from slavery (13th Amendment)
  • Granted blacks citizenship (14th Amendment)
  • Gave blacks the right to vote (15th Amendment)
  • Passed civil rights laws of the 1860's, 1957, 1960, 1964, and 1965
  • Started Affirmative Action (not the quota system of today)
  • Founded the historically Black Colleges and Universities.
  • Sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools
  • Started the NAACP
It was the Democrats who:
  • Started the Ku Klux Clan
  • Had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI
  • Called Dr. King a "trouble maker"
  • Were the party of Slavery, Secession, Segregation, and Socialism
It is the Democrats today who are running the inner-cities.  Look at Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Gary (Indiana).  They continue to hold their citizens hostage.  Have any of these cities been better off with Democrats in charge?  I have said this before....Democrats have been in charge in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania for decades. Where has this gotten you?

Thanks to DBKP for introducing me to the following video.  I am not black.  I will not pretend to understand what someone who is black goes through or has gone through in their lifetime.  I believe the gentleman in this video can speak on the subject much better than I ever could.  He deserves a HUGE pat on the back for standing up for my party...the Republican party.

The earth is flat and Democrats are for poor people ... 2 popular myths.

Youtube censors political speech by pulling this past Monday, a video viewed over 840,000 times in 5 days .... "Burning down the house: what caused our economic crisis?" Only to, by Wed, let it be reposted multiple times, some in its original form, and some with classical music, but all without the orig 840,000 views counted.

The "affordable" housing that Democrats push onto poor people includes interest only and variable rate loans that if they default on will wreck their credit. I would never take out an interest only or variable rate loan and I have a college degree to help me earn money.

The schools that Democrats push onto poor people graduate only half of the kids in Chicago, in Baltimore only 33% of the kids who want to graduate can pass 8th grade level tests. I've heard that 75% of African American males drop out of school in Baltimore City. They compete with illegal immigrants for jobs in 1 of the 4 states that allow illegal immigrants to obtain drivers licenses.

No, Democrats don't like poor people. They use poor people like a commodity to enrich their unions, enrich their buddies who bring "development" to the city, enrich their organizations who provide "services" to the poor, and enrich the businesses that save labor costs and get around the Democrat's excessive regulation of the work place by hiring illegal immigrants.

If poor people had any idea how much money is supposedly spent on their behalf and NEVER reaches them, I believe they wouldn't vote for Democrats for a generation.

There are a large number of things that are historically memorable with regards to the GOP and Black America. Unfortunately the Republican Party has only itself to blame. In recent years they have projected themselves as the party of the rich white Christian male.
The overwhelming support of Sarah Palin (no opinion on her, just on the idea here) was an eye opening experience for the good old boys (conservative women are force to be reckoned with), and I suspect to see more inclusion as the GOP goes forward. Or at least I hope so.

Randy-Thank you for your post. I do not like that word under any circumstances. I understand you were using it in a historical reference, but I would prefer that it not be used at all. I hope this doesn't offend you. Please continue to post.

Revision of deleted post.

I am 54 years old. Caucasion. Grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1964 Barry Goldwater carried 5 deep south states, including Alabama, in a historic election that is now considered the beginning of "The Republican Revolution" and the end of the solid Democratic South. (Of course one could cite Thurmond and his Dixiecrats as an earlier example) As an impressionable 4th grader I recall well the political conversations of the men in my neighborhood. "That Johnson (LBJ) is a "(pejorative term for black person here) lover."
I would suggest that it was racism, not the principles outlined in "Conscience of a Conservative" that lead the move to Goldwater and the GOP.
